CAROL adds to awards
Carol, the modern, faith-based musical filmed in northeast Indiana earlier this year, added to its collection of awards at two recent film festivals.
Carol received the Best Inspirational Film award at the Green Mountain Christian Film Festival, held Oct. 18-19 in Randolph, Vermont.
Aaron Fullan, who plays the lead role of Solomon in the film, was honored as Best Actor, and Robert Amaya, who plays Christmas Past, was named Best Supporting Actor.
The Green Mountain Christian Film Festival is hosted by Faith and Family Films, a nonprofit organization committed to promoting faith-based and family-friendly movies.
“There were many outstanding films competing at the Green Mountain Christian Film Festival, and it’s an incredible honor and blessing to be recognized as the best among them,” said James Tew, president of Angola, Indiana-based 22 Productions and executive producer of Carol along with his wife Shannon.
“I’m also very happy that Aaron and Robert were recognized for the wonderful work they did in Carol. Aaron knocked it out of the park in his first lead role, and Robert was amazing as always. The two of them make a dynamite combination.”
Carol also received several awards at the recent Golden Lion International Film Festival: Best International Feature Film, Special Jury Award, Best Director for George A. Johnson, Best Actor for Aaron Fullan and Best Writer for George A. Johnson and James Tew.
Based in India, the Golden Lion International Film Festival is an international platform for independent film making and the art of visual storytelling.
Carol and Johnson previously were recognized at the Bollywood International Film Awards and the Athens International Monthly Film Festival.
“We know that God has already done and will continue to do amazing things through all the different aspects of this film: writing, directing and acting,” Tew said.
About ‘Carol’
Inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol,” Carol tells the story of Solomon Lynch (Aaron Fullan, Surprised By Oxford, The Glitch), a self-centered slacker and the resident Scrooge of the small, struggling town of Springdale, Indiana. Estranged from his family, Solomon comes face-to-face with the real Ebenezer Scrooge (Paul Kandarian, Pursuit of Freedom) on Christmas Eve and is taken on a musical journey through his past, present and future.
While the story uses devices and characters from “A Christmas Carol,” it includes its own unique twists and turns, with diverse musical styles, poignant moments and humor throughout the film.
In the end, it will take much more than Christmas spirit for Solomon to make things right.
Special showings of the movie have already been announced in northeast Indiana. The movie also will receive a national theatrical release.
